An engagement session is an important and beautiful part of every wedding experience. It’s a perfect chance for my couples to practice being in front of a camera and for me to learn what kind of interaction works best for every particular couple to get the most genuine and honest images of them. And even though engagement sessions do not involve nearly as much planning as weddings, there are still a few important things you have to decide. One of those things is choosing the right location! That being said, if you’re planning on having your engagement session in Seattle, you’re definitely in luck! Washington State in general, and Seattle area, in particular, are full of stunning locations!

In this article, I will share my top five locations for your engagement session. But before you dive into it, I would recommend spending a little bit of time thinking if there are any spots that that feel special to you as a couple, or if there are locations you love to visit. Even determining what aesthetic and vibe you’d like to go for is extremely helpful! Do you like hiking? Maybe a foresty mountainy location is a perfect fit for you. Do you like spending time by the water, or kayaking, or walking your dog along the docks in the evenings? Water location it is! Do you love the clean and open look of grassy fields? There are a ton of those in and around Seattle! Or maybe you prefer to spend your evenings cuddling on the couch, sipping wine and snacking on cheese and crackers while watching Netflix? In-home session might be the way to go for you!

My biggest recommendation for you when planning your engagement session would be this – talk to your photographer! They are your best resource! Share what mood/vibe/aesthetic you’d like to go for and I’m sure your photographer would suggest a few locations that suit you best.

Now, let’s get into it. Here are some of my favorite engagement session locations for you!

 

1. Discovery Park

I think I can officially call this place my office now. I shoot there a lot and it is still one of my favorites! You can get a great variety of photos by shooting in the meadows first and then going to the beach for some amazing sunset photos.

 

2. Three Forks

This location is located less than one hour drive from Seattle and it brings a stunning but intimate feel to engagement shoots. This also is the perfect choice if you want to include your puppy in your pictures! You can see Mount Si in all its glory from this spot, and your pup will have plenty of room to play.

 

3. Eastern WA

To be honest, Eastern Washington is one of my favorite places to shoot. Its gorgeous send dunes, neutral greens, and the most mindblowing sunsets had me at first sight. It requires a couple of hours of driving, but I promise it’s worth it!

 

4. Oregon and Washington Coast

Oregon and Washington Coast is a bottomless pool of inspiration for me personally, as well as almost any creative I’ve ever met. Endless sand beaches, cliffs, seagulls, and ocean are a perfect backdrop for your engagement photos if you’re looking for something special and unique! Even though these locations require quite a bit of driving, it is so worth it! If you’re interested in having your session at Ruby Beach, Cannon Beach or Cape Kiwanda, please reach out! 5. Rattlesnake Lake

This easy-to-reach location is absolutely stunning. The gorgeous three-for-one special offers mountain views, lakeside photos, and the backdrop of a mossy green forest. It lends engagement shoots a fairytale-like quality.
